Cycle of Conferences on Musical Improvisation

The Institute of Critical Studies presents a series of online conferences on musical improvisation, featuring experts from Spanish-speaking countries. The talks will take place from February 6 to March 27.

From February 6 to March 27, a cycle of master conferences titled "Improvising with Ñ" will take place, coordinated by Maestro Ricardo Lomnitz. The talks will focus on free musical improvisation in Spanish-speaking territories. Topics will include improvisation as a creative and dissenting act, the interplay between material, interaction, attitude, and music, art, and free improvisation, among others.

The cycle will feature participation from international experts such as Amanda Irarrázabal, Silvana Figueroa-Dreher, Fabiana Galante, and other prominent speakers. These conferences will explore the specific elements of improvisation and its relationship with various aspects of individual and social life. Specialists will consider improvisation as a capability for experimentation, imagination, mutual listening, and creative cooperation, fundamental to facing current challenges.

The conferences will be held on the Zoom platform every Thursday, from February 6 to March 27, from 12 to 2 PM, Central Mexico Time. Additionally, concerts have been scheduled at 9 PM. The cycle will conclude with the launch of portal 17, Impro, which will serve as a platform for disseminating the initiatives and research of the Institute of Critical Studies.

On the other hand, the Faculty of Music at UNAM invites you to the workshop on "Psychomotricity with Body Percussion, Cognitive Stimulation, and Therapeutic Dance," which will take place on Saturdays from 11 AM to 1:30 PM, from February 22 to May 31. This workshop will be led by Maestro Nhorma Ortiz and will be open to individuals aged 15 and older without the need for prior musical knowledge. Additionally, as part of the activities, concerts and performances will be held at Bar Hobos, where live blues and rock will be enjoyed. The program includes various presentations and events that promote musical interaction and creative exploration.
